David Ederly, in a Gamasutra Soapbox, proposes a MMO reputation system. It’s still a keen idea, and he has some interesting mechanics (including decay of reputation and the requirement that an association of at least 30 minutes be in place before the vote could be made). But as I wrote in April, there can and will be abuses despite the efforts made to make the reputation system less gameable.
As with taunt forcing targets to change in PvP (finally implemented in EQ2), this seems like a very obvious system to bolt onto an existing game that could have dramatic effects on quality of play.

I proposed such a thing for player Dungeon Masters in an online D&D game. Basically the DM’s would be rated by the players and the players rated by the DMs.
I was called an idiot and that such a system was retarded
So interesting to read this now.

I don’t necessarily believe it will work, at least as expected, but I’d love to see someone take the risk and put it into a mass market game. It seems to be a perfect fit for DMs, especially for something like NWN.

Roma Victor is a Roman themed MMORPG that has a complex reputation system, current testers labelled as criminals or outlaws by the system are being crucified!
